As said before there are a lot of synthesizers in my studio. But not all of them have a keyboard on them, but most of them do. The synthesizers that have keys take up a lot of space of course. I spend a lot of time figuring out how I could fit as much as possible in the studio. I think I managed quite OK so far, but I still find new spots.
Some people wonder how I can play on the synthesizers on top or very low. Well the answer is simple. They are all connected with Midi In and Out or if they don't have Midi I use CV/Gate to trigger them. So I can play on the synthesizers with keys remotely from my Mid Master Keyboard right in front of me. So there is no need to specifically sit behind a synthesizer to play on it in most cases. Also programming sounds can be done over Midi from software running on my PC.
Some synthesizers have special controllers that you just want to use on the synthesizer itself, because otherwise you couldn't use all the modulation possibilities. Or they just don't have Midi or CV/Gate. These synthesizers are situated on spots where I can sit behind them or I just pick them up and put them on a synth stand next to my main desk to play on it. And some just play great. I don't know what it is, but some keyboards just feel right for solo's, and sometimes you want a really big keyboard to play chords. Sometimes I prefer light keys, but sometimes also semi-weighted keys like on a piano.
The synthesizers I like the most are closest to me. You can make that up from the studio pictures I guess. But to name some favorites: Roland Jupiter 8, ARP 2600, Roland Juno-60, Moog Minimoog Model-D, Elka Synthex, Access Virus TI, Roland V-Synth GT, Korg M3. I guess when I had to choose I definitely would keep those. But luckily so far I didn't have to make that decision. I have sold some synthesizers in the past to make room, but sometimes even got them back later. I just love them all. I can't help myself :) I confess. My name is Michel and I'm a synth addict ;)
